Gumtree Festival History
In 1971, when a small but lively local arts festival made its debut, few could have predicted the impact that the Gumtree Fine Arts Festival would come to have on this region. Presented by the Gumtree Museum of Art, the two-day event, held on Mother’s Day weekend, has become a cultural landmark, bringing thousands of visitors to Tupelo, eager to engage with the arts on the personal, meaningful level that the Festival affords. An ever-expanding menu of activities makes this an event for all ages and stages of life and a welcome highlight for families.
Gumtree Art & Wine Festival is celebrating its 51st. After a rebrand of the Festival in 2022 in honor of its 50th anniversary, the refreshed event will take place May 12-14, 2023. The 2-day juried fine arts festival brings upwards of 20,000 people to Tupelo to celebrate the visual and performing arts, as well as to offer this audience the rare opportunity to interact with the artists while viewing and purchasing fine works of art. In addition, the weekend offers live artists demonstrations; educational art activities, youth art award ceremonies, live music and entertainment, local food vendors, wine and food tastings/pairings and much more! The Gumtree Art & Wine Festival is designed to spark art patronage and conversation in the community in a time when art awareness is crucial.
